Music Ministry
The Music Ministry at St. Alphonsus includes over 120 volunteers and is an extension of our community. They are a group of dedicated people who believe that through prayer and song they can lead the congregation to sing God’s praises. All of the music groups meet from September through June. Each group has its own schedule of rehearsals and Masses. As a member of the music ministry, you’ll have many opportunities to sing, play, and perform. Not only do we participate in weekly Liturgies, but also in special services - Missions, Holy Days and a variety of other events, depending on the group. Cantors and small groups continue throughout the summer.
St. Alphonsus’ Music Groups
Adult Choir: High School and up. We are always in need of adult singers to enhance our liturgy. You do not need to read music, just love singing and are able to carry a tune! We meet every Wednesday from 9:30–10:30 a.m. or 7:00-8:45 p.m. and sing at one Sunday Mass per week.
Adult Contemporary Ensemble: High School and up. This is a small group of 4-part voices and instrumentalists that sing traditional and contemporary music. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 and sing at the Saturday 5:15 p.m. Mass.
Children’s Choir: Grades K through 6th. We meet every Thursday from 4:00 - 4:40 p.m. Children study basic vocal techniques, learn many songs and sing at a Mass each month, including Christmas.
St. Alphonsus School Choir: Grades 4th through 8th. St. Al’s students meet Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-1:30 p.m. Students lead all of the music for School Masses, sing at a nursing home, and selected Sundays.
Adult Bell Choir: Ages High School and up. This is a unique and fun ensemble that rings bells! Some basic music experience is helpful, but not required. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This choir plays at one Mass each month.
Children’s Handbell Choir: Ages 4th-8th grade. Students learn basic note reading/rhythm skills and have fun playing songs and accompanying the children’s choir. We meet Thursdays from 3:15-3:55 p.m. and play monthly during Mass.
Cantors: High School and up. This is a ministry for those with strong singing voices and an ability to lead the congregation in song.
Instrumentalists: All ages. Percussionists, guitarists, bass players, strings, brass, and woodwinds are all encouraged to play. Instrumentalists meet on Thursdays from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Call for information on ensemble options that are available. We need you!!!
