Sacrament of Confirmation
We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the sealing of baptismal promises before high school greatly benefits our children and community. Our youth face too many decisions. They need the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit tucked tightly into their hearts. Through Confirmation preparation and the celebration of this Sacrament our children can be better grounded in our creed and enlivened to pursue the mission God has designed for each middle school student. Creed and Mission fit this age group since most are more than able and often very willing, to help people in need and to provide service for our parish and school activities.
During Confirmation preparation, we recommend 7th graders prepare for the Sacrament and receive Confirmation as outlined in the preparation calendar. We encourage 8th graders to continue with faith formation through St. Al's High School Youth Group on Sunday evenings.
We encourage candidates to take advantage of service projects, and we also recommend that parents help their child decide on a parish service and ministry before they enter high school. One of these ministries will be the opportunity to participate in the monthly Teen Mass, as a Lector, Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Gift Bearer, Server or being a part of the Music ministry.
Sponsors must be 16 years old or older, confirmed, and not a parent of the candidate. One of the baptismal godparents would be a great choice.
Bishop Hurley will confirm candidates from a few different parishes on several dates at the Cathedral of St. Andrew. The Diocese will provide us with a date; the next date is scheduled for sometime in the Spring of 2008.
