About Redemptorists

The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of Catholic priests and brothers founded in southern Italy in 1732 by St. Alphonsus Liguori. One hundred years after its formation, six Redemptorists brought the ministry to America. In 1888 at the request of Bishop Henry Richter, the two Redemptorist priests arrived in Grand Rapids to staff the newly established St. Alphonsus Parish. Today, there are over 5,000 Redemptorists preaching in every corner of the globe.

Through parish mission preaching events, soup kitchens, senior services, retreats, marriage preparations, food banks, publications, youth outreach and a host of other ministries, the Redemptorists can be found delivering the Gospel message wherever it is needed. Their mission has remained for more than 275 years: To serve the poor and most abandoned.
